August is a strange quarter. Even though we do n’t really hit fall in Southern California until October, it’s a month of transition from summer to fall. Children are going back to school, and one’s eating raw corn and squash at the same time. It’s crazy! When you go to the food store, you can see this change. The majority of the fall products have n’t yet been released ( they start to trickle in at the end of the month ), but the majority of them are becoming less and less summery. Even though it’s a awkward time, Trader Joe’s still has some good products on hand ( I ca n’t imagine anything else is awkward ). Of the many items I tried this quarter, these are two things that I’ll been buying on repeat ( at least, for as long as they’re available! I ca n’t say enough about this cheese at Simply Recipes / Laurel Randolph. The California-based Point Reyes is renowned for its top-notch orange cheese and toma butter. The latter is a corpse’s dairy, semi-hard variety that’s extremely versatile and takes well to flavorings. The “rashi” is TomaRashi refers to the standard Asian spice mix, shichimi togarashi. The combination of powdered chiles, orange fruit, dried seaweed, and more is very tasty in the cheese, giving it a nice ( but not too strong ) kick. I’ve enjoyed this butter with chips, on its own, and on vegetarian burgers. It’s even a great deal for a very high-quality butter. The webpage says “limited time”, but come snatch it up! Trader Joe’s has finally released a spicy version of their blue pasta, according to Laurel Randolph’s Simply Recipes. Although I enjoy the unique noodles, I typically omit the sauce bag or modify it. The new savory noodles come in two seasoning boxes, which is clearly superior to one. The soup is definitely spicier, and there’s the added benefit of creaminess from sunflower paste. In my opinion, this is a major improvement. I occasionally make these noodles and serve them with leftover vegetables, such as fresh sliced cucumbers, and the soup. No regrets! Honorable Mentions My husband is really enjoying TJ’s new Coffee Mochi ($ 4.99 ), as he loves all things coffee-flavored. Unfortunately, he is never a coffee drinker. Get find! Since these are a limited solution, purchase them while you can. I really like the new Crunchy Chili Onion Sprinkle Seasoning Blend ($ 1.99 ), a nice addition to Trader Joe’s line-up of Crunchy Chili Onion products. Although it’s less flavorful than the traditional chili squeeze, it’s still a good choice if you only need a few dashes without using any extra fuel.
