I like to purchase bags of fruit for quick snacks during the week, especially when they are dipped in thick peanut butter. You know what I do n’t enjoy? Grapes that go bad very quickly. In the past, I’ve often shoved that bag of fruit in the refrigerator hoping for the best. I’ve always wondered what I’m doing wrong, and while some of this method works and my apples only last a few weeks, some of the apples do n’t last at all. Does apples be kept in the refrigerator for storage? Should they go in a brighter box, lay on a table, or come in a fruit box on my shop? To better understand how to keep my fruit but they last as long as possible, I asked Brianna Shales, marketing chairman of Stemilt, a group of family-owned make producers in Wenatchee, Washington, for guidance. The Best Way to Store Apples” The best way to keep fruit is to keep them in your refrigerator’s lowest room, preferably between 33°F and 35°F,” says Shales. The blooming process is slowed down by this cold environment, which keeps the apples fresh for long. She further explains that apples should n’t be kept close to strong-smelling foods like onions and garlic because they can absorb the flavor of the apple odor and prevent them from being stored there. Fruit release a gas called ethylene, which may affect the food around it, for as onions. According to Shales, the gas prevents onions from sprouting while they are being stored, but it also releases a gas that can speed up the fruit ‘ drying and deterioration. But be sure to keep your grapes in the refrigerator far away from tubers, leeks, and garlic for the longest-lasting fruit. Not all fruit are great for long-term store, according to Getty Images ‘ simple recipes. Cool temperatures in the kitchen lower fruit metabolism, slowing down the ripening approach and preserving the fruit ‘ freshness”, Shales explains. It’s best to wash an apple right away after eating, because keeping water in the refrigerator can cause it to break more quickly. But, according to Shales, no grapes are created equal. Some grapes are ideal if they are kept in the refrigerator for a long time, but other fruit should be eaten right away for the best apple flavor. ” While the attention tends to be similar across different kinds, Fuji, Cosmic Crisp®, Red Delicious, Granny Smith, and Gala apples are tough and long-living, so they can be stored for longer times and still retain their value. Whereas Honeycrisp and SweeTango® grapes are best for quick, refreshing eating”, she says. How Can I Stop Apples From Turning Brown Related to avocado, which turn brown as a result of oxidation, a chemical reaction the grapes undergoes when exposed to oxygen in the air. Although eating a brown apple is n’t as appealing as a fresh-looking slice, it does n’t mean your apple has gone bad. You can paint the apples with lemon juice or rinse the apple slices in sugar water to prevent corrosion for a few hours, especially if you intend to serve them as a treat at a party or with a fruit dip. How to Know When An Apple Has Gone Bad While oxidation does n’t necessarily indicate that the fruit has gone bad, bruising and other signs of decay, such as a rotten smell, are telltale indicators that an apple has past its expiration date. According to Shales,” You you tell when an apple has gone bad when it shows major injury or obvious indicators of decay.” Avoid eating apples that have these traits because they do n’t offer the best flavor. Indications of a poor apple include soft places, a gooey texture, color, and an uncomfortable odor”.
