Summer is my favorite season—ca n’t beat peach and tomato season. Fall comes in at a really close second, not just because of the warm sweaters and pumpkin pepper everything—though I love that, too. It’s the time of year when my house comes alive once with cooler, friendlier, and more pleasant flavor. I’ll admit that when I first saw this blend of frozen carrots and sweet potatoes for$ 2.99 at ALDI, I initially felt a little anxious that the summer was coming to an end, but then quickly reminded myself that fall food is good food. Hip, leg! It’s a wonderful mixture of sweet potatoes and carrots, all pre-chopped and seasoned joyfully. When I first tossed it into my cart, I had no thought I would appreciate it so much, but as my girl says,” It’s fire”. And from her mother’s view, a ready-to-roast combination is like having a small fall fairy godmother in your refrigerator. Why I Love Cooking, but I do n’t always have time to be a prep chef. ( for the 123rd occasion that morning ). And since institution is beginning in two weeks, I need all the assistance I can get to put a nutritious dinner on the table fast. My children even eat this like chocolate, and I’m happy to contribute to that health-promoting behaviour as long as it’s happening. As an added bonus, frozen vegetables are generally flash-frozen at their top, packing them with nutrients and flavour. This mixture stands out from the other brands I’ve tried because of the attentive mixture of flavors. The ginger and rose combine beautifully with the beauty of the potatoes and carrots, giving off a vintage fall flavor that is difficult to beat. And I’d be foolish not to mention the cost. At$ 2.99, it’s less than what you’d spend for the same fresh materials, especially if half of them ending up forgotten in the closet or brighter box. We’ve all been there before. How to use ALDI’s Carrot and Sweet Potato Blend Basically, Recipes and Photo Illustration by Wanda Abraham It turns out beautifully caramelized, making it a delicious side dish for anything from pork chops to roast meat. One of my favorite programs has been using it as a foundation for a nice fall dish because I enjoy veggies that combine cooked and raw ingredients. I roast the vegetables and toss them with some spicy arugula, crumbled goat cheese, baked beans, and a zesty maple-balsamic washing. It’s a restaurant-worthy food that takes minimum effort. Additionally, I intend to use it to make room for the leftovers from Thanksgiving this season. The second items that vanish are the special potatoes and mashed potatoes. So I can easily roast some of these for a well-rounded post-T-day dinner before turning to my favorite Thanksgiving tradition–leftover turkey sandwiches ( obviously ). A quick, delicious fall meal that does n’t skimp on flavor is a recent ALDI discovery that’s a convenient freezer staple. So, if you find yourself in ALDI’s freezer section, grab a bag ( or three ) to have your own freezer fairy godmother on those busy back-to-school nights.
